How do I know this?

Because if that competitor site knows anything about how Adwords works they have done onsite SEO to make sure the terms that they are bidding on get high quality scores - basically the terms that they are bidding on have to be listed on the site enough times to make Google think the site really is about those terms. If that's the case then the Google Adwords Keyword Tool will pick up on those terms and tell them to you.

Just like that you can practically steal your competitions thunder.

With all that said I need to give you one BIG warning about the Google Adwords Keyword Tool … most of its data sucks. Estimations on expected traffic and CPC are almost always wrong … by a pretty wide margin, that's why in the end you may want to consider getting a good commercial keyword tool, the commercial ones are not spot on with their estimates, but they are a tad closer than the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

Adwords Google is the fastest way to make money in the online world. Why? Well first because everyone uses Google. This means that they have the lion share of your customers at their beck and call. If you want to get your message in front of your customers eyes you have to go to where your customers congregate … and on the internet that is Google. When you use PPC you get instant gratification (at least you do if you wrote a semi-decent ad). This instant gratification means that you will know within days if the product you are promoting will not sell, alternatively you will find out if your landing page and ad copy any good.  This fast path to actionable date is invaluable.

With Adwords Google  you get data that you can actually utilize extremely fast. This means that you can find problems in your sales channel, web site, ads, etc … that are discouraging customers from buying and make the appropriate adjustments far faster than you would ever be able to do with SEO … it could take you months to get this kind of data through SEO work. With Pay Per Click marketing you get it right away, can make adjustments on the campaigns that are worth keeping, scrap the ones that are not, and start working on a new one in rapid succession.

But there are some serious risks to PPC. You can lose a lot of money if you do not approach Adwords Google in the right way. First you need to consider how much money you can afford on a daily basis. And it really needs to be on a daily basis. It could be 100 dollars, or 30, or 10 or even 5. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Just start with something that you can afford to put out on a daily basis for at least 30 days. Second you need to drum up a list of good keywords.
